Als (trouw-)fotograaf werk ik hard om beter te worden in wat ik doe. Eens in de zoveel tijd doe ik daarom mee aan een workshop of cursus. Dit jaar begon voor mij met een workshop van Studio Damon. Terugkijkend zie ik de verandering die zijn lessen in mijn manier van fotograferen teweeg hebben gebracht, en in hoe ik kijk naar de wereld om me heen.

Aan het einde van dit trouwseizoen was het tijd voor weer wat nieuwe input en inspiratie. Al een hele tijd volg ik het fantastische werk van A Fist Full of Bolts (AFFOB). Wat zijn zij enorm getalenteerd! Hun werk is origineel, vol emotie en vooral zo eigen. Toen ik hoorde dat zij naar Nederland kwamen voor een workshop, wist ik dat ik erbij wilde zijn. Bovendien is het altijd gaaf en inspirerend om collega-fotografen te ontmoeten.

De workshop werd gehost door Sjoerd Booij, een onwijs getalenteerde fotograaf en even zo tof persoon om mee om te gaan. De dag was vanaf begin tot eind inspirerend. Sean en Melanie van AFFOB zijn zoals hun werk is: puur, zichzelf en open over hun manier van werken. Wat ik geleerd heb? De zin die het meest is blijven hangen is: “Get rid of all the noise and follow your heart!” Ik heb voldoende voer om mee aan de slag te gaan de komende tijd!

Natuurlijk deden we ook een shoot, met fantastische modellen, een ondergaande zon en een prachtige omgeving. Onder anderen Bart (www.postcardsfrommars.nl) en Danique (www.oakandfir.com) waren fantastisch voor de camera. Met een aantal fotografen sloten we deze toffe, leerzame dag af met een gezellig etentje.

As a (wedding) photographer I work very hard to become better at what I do. That’s why I join workshops every now and then. This year I started off with a workshop at Studio Damon. As I look back, I see that it has brought such a huge change in my way of photographing and in the way I look at the world around me.

As the end of this wedding season is coming closer, it was time for some new input and inspiration. I’ve been a long time follower of the fantastic work of A Fist Full of Bolts (AFFOB). They are so talented! Their work is very original, full of emotion and they are so true to themselves. When I heard they were planning to come to the Netherlands for a workshop, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Besides, it’s always a great pleasure and inspiring too to meet fellow photographers.

The workshop was hosted by Sjoerd Booij, a very talented photographer and great person to hang out with. From beginning ‘til end the day was super inspirational. Sean and Melanie of AFFOB are so pure, true to themselves and very open about their way of working. What did I learn from the workshop? The thing that lingers the most is: ‘ Get rid of all the noise and follow your heart!’ The entire workshop has given me enough tools to work with the upcoming 2016 season!

Of course we did a photoshoot as well, with fantastic models, a setting sun and beautiful scenery. Among others Bart (www.postcardsfrommars.nl) and Danique (www.oakandfir.com) were fantastic in front of the camera. Me and my colleagues ended this wonderful instructive day with a lovely diner together.
